"It was our great fortune to have Larry Fobes return to Duke and the Fuqua School of Business to talk to our Global Executive MBA students about leadership. Drawing on his own considerable experience as an executive and on the many wonderful interviews he has done with leaders in business and government, Larry helped our students understand the challenges leaders face and the ways they meet those challenges. The class is part of our most senior executive MBA program, and many of the students are already in leadership roles in their organizations. Even for the most advanced leaders in the class, though, there was great appreciation for Larry's insights and the issues raised by the video clips he showed us. In subsequent classes and on our course discussion boards the issues that Larry had raised were mentioned again and again. Indeed, even months after his presentation, I still see my students talking about what Larry said or what one of the leaders he interviewed had said about this topic or that one. That is leadership training with 'legs,' as we say!"

"It has been a privilege to use the video tapes of "Leaders on Leadership" in my classes. On the tapes, students and viewers can see the theories in action and understand the influence processes of effective leaders.
Unseen to viewers was a magical process as Larry co-hosted a graduate class I taught on Leadership Effectiveness. With subtle hints from Larry, students took the lead to describe what they saw as linkages to a wide variety of leadership theories. As an instructor, I was amazed as Larry's subtle suggestions prompted such sophisticated thinking about leadership from graduate students. Larry also co-taught, with me, graduate classes on Strategic Leadership. His insights in class really helped the students link the academic jargon of the current leadership theories to the real world of effective influence. It was fantastic to watch the students learn."

"Our firm places a high value on grooming our future leaders. The idea of creating a law firm leadership program centered around a marriage of Larry's C-Suite interviews and the complementary issues facing a law firm was just too exciting to pass up. Keying off the questions and topics which firm leaders face, Larry came up with spot on clips from his interviews to identify issues and illustrate potential ways to deal with them. The result was a very thought provoking, creative discussion in which our future leaders participated as collaborators. Larry's work and preparation was evident as the four module program unfolded. Although we have done several past programs in leadership training, this structure was a first for us. We had no idea going in whether it would prove really beneficial, just worthwhile, or be a complete loser. Larry did not disappoint. At the end, the consensus was that we hit the jackpot."

"Larry’s presentation was perfectly designed and executed, and directly related to the major leadership issues central to our course. In addition, it was extremely enjoyable to watch the students engage with him while utilizing high-level analytical skills and analysis. His format of engaging the students from the very beginning made the topic feel more "real" and more relevant, not to mention more pressing. There were many moments throughout where I could see the students imagining themselves into future leadership roles and thinking about what that might mean for them."
